McCain’s closing argument?

The only remaining respect I have for McCain is in thinking that if maybe he were running against someone else this year – Clinton, perhaps – he’d be campaigning his hardest and sticking to the higher road he’s long represented in our national narrative.  But that’s not much credit to give someone, the idea that they’d take the high road for anyone they didn’t absolutely despise.  People forget that the Obama-McCain rivalry didn’t start during, or after, the primaries.  It started in 2007, after McCain took a trip to Iraq to prove it was safe.  Obama pointed out that McCain had to be accompanied by helicopters and a hundred soldiers.

McCain’s aides fired back what was the opening salvos of this campaign: “Obama wouldn’t know the difference between an RPG and a bong.”

If that’s the opening argument, how low will the closing argument go?
